memorial day

first on our to-do list was intrepid sea, air & space museum. rachel and chad met us at our place and then we headed out. robert stayed home, probably to pack for our summer in utah. as we left, rachel mentioned she left her phone at our apartment and said she probably wouldn't need it anyway and i said something about not doing anything that might cause her to need it. on our way to the subway she stopped to get some coffee and we headed down to the train. the train was approaching as we got to the platform and we got caught up in the moment and the rush and hopped on the train. it was probably a few stops before we realized what we'd done. at our transfer station we were able to get a hold of rachel and robert and figure things out. she had looked for us everywhere on the platform, and when she didn't see us she went back to our apartment to get her phone. at least it is only one block away. we met up about 5 minutes away from the intrepid. chad's iced coffee wasn't so iced anymore.

the first exhibit we saw at the museum was the submarine. we were a little worried that simon would be disappointed when we saw a height requirement, but they let him in since he was able to climb through a hatchway they let him in. mim on the other hand was not allowed. we left chad with mim to bond while we went on the sub. that line was one of the slowest moving lines i've ever been in.

after at least a half-hour, when we were about half way through the line, we called chad to check in with him. turns out mim had been crying since about the time that we got in line. he thought we'd be done any minute so he didn't try calling us. this is what a sad sweaty mimsy looks like.

it was so warm that day. we waited outside for the rest of the crew to finish inside the submarine. then we went to the flight deck. the black-top flight deck. i'm sure it was at least five degrees warmer up there.

then we found an indoor, air-conditioned part of the museum. it was too late. we already were exhausted from the heat. really wish we had gone in there before the flight deck.

we were all exhausted and starving when we found the space section of the museum. simon wanted to go there so bad. if only the submarine hadn't taken so long.
