9/11 memorial

a visit to new york city just isn't complete without a visit to the memorial site. thank you dad for getting me to finally see it.

i don't have the same memories of 9/11 as most people since i was sheltered from all the news and discussion of it while i was preparing for my mission in the mtc. it really didn't affect me the same way as most people. i think i was most moved by the remembrance of the ladder and engine companies because of simon's love for firemen and firetrucks and that he currently wants to grow up to be a firefighter. i'm so grateful for the sacrifices that were made by those wonderful heroes.

here my dad is in front of the survivor tree. all the trees at the site are the same, swamp white oaks, except for this one tree. this pear tree was severely damaged on 9/11 and was nursed back to health in the bronx. it was replanted at the site nine years later on december 22, 2010, as a symbol of  new york city's and the nation's resilience to the attacks.
