half-birthday gift

simon's feet haven't quite straightened out like they should have, but apparently both robert and i had the same problem, so we shouldn't be surprised. we went to the dr. yesterday and he prescribed these shoes. the condition is called metatarsus varus and the shoes are straight last shoes. they have hard soles and his feet have to be strapped in pretty tight so that he can't curl them. he thought the shoes were uncomfortable at first, but he got used to them pretty quick. they just take a long time to put on and he doesn't like that. also, he has to wear them for about 16 hours a day, so he gets to wear them when he sleeps at night and then some. we'll see how his first night goes. anyway, you can see that they don't keep him from smiling, not at all.
