governor's island

i'm not so good at paying attention to weather forecasts. we had been planning to go to governor's island one saturday, but the weather was less than ideal. what do you do? we went anyway. you would never believe how close you are to manhattan while you are there. because we went on a day that was cold and a little wet there were fewer people than normal. even so, i've heard that it doesn't matter when you go, it never feels as crowded as the city. i'll leave it to my friend to do it justice.

when we went there was a community art event called figment. we passed a tribal sounding dj tent. there were random sculptures made from car parts and way more exhibits than i can remember. but the area that simon was most interested in involved bubbles, and that's all i took pictures of.

robert did a pretty good job. simon never got a chance to make bubbles on his own. too many older kids that took the wands.

isn't simon cute in his fireman gear?

8/5/12 - him, while watching bob the builder: "daddy, they're using varnish!" "why?" "ugh, to protect against rain and other weather. i don't like saying that all the time."
