cabin

when robert was a boy his family would come back to the states every summer. as a tradition they would spend time at the family cabin in island park, idaho. robert has so many great memories from this place, and he wanted very much to take simon up there. granted, simon is a little young to remember this trip to the cabin, but it would be nice if we could take him there every summer so that he can have the same wonderful memories that robert had. (traditionally robert's extended family also goes to the cabin for thanksgiving. i went once. it is far too cold. we just went in august, and it was in the 30s and 40s at night, barely in the 70s during the day. i think i want to keep this a summer tradition.)

simon is so excited to go out on the canoe! buffalo river here we come!

since simon's nana has been here, he has picked up on one of her habits. whenever nana gets frustrated or upset she puts her hands on her head. after a few weeks simon started mimicking her (does that tell you how often she gets frustrated?) thankfully simon is not upset as often as he puts his hands on his head. but if you say "oh no!" he'll do it. sometimes.

this is a view of the cabin from the river. gggpa acquired this cabin in a business deal long long ago. then he and his boys (one of them being ggpa) helped build on to it. that would be the smaller more brown cabin on the right. ggpa's brother built a larger cabin next to the old one. he and his wife live there most of the year. i don't know how they make it all winter long.

finally, out on the canoe. nana and papa were on the less heavy canoe and seemed to glide effortlessly on the water.

we however were on the more heavy canoe and had 4 adults + 1 baby and often ended up in very shallow waters and had a very hard time staying in the right direction.
